At the beginning of the new year Goetic Impressions added a consecration option to the vast majority of the items that we offer on our website and our Etsy. As some of our customers might not be fully versed in consecration I thought I would take a little time and talk about it here, so that everyone can make an informed decision on whether they want us to consecrate their Goetic Impressions purchase, whether they want to do it themselves, or whether they want to forgo consecration entirely. So let’s jump into it.
What is Consecration anyway?
While there are a lot of differing views on exactly what consecration should entail or the best way to consecrate a ritual item, there are a few primary points where nearly everyone can agree. Consecration is the act of imbuing a ritual item or talisman with magickal energy or power, turning an otherwise ‘mundane’ item into a ‘magickal’ one. For some items like planetary pentacles or similar talismans the act of consecration serves to ‘activate’ them so the owner can begin to receive the benefits of wearing and owning them. For other items the act of consecration prepares them for their role in ritual and allows them to serve their ritual purpose on a magickal or energetic level (as opposed to functioning just as a prop or set piece).
Can’t I just consecrate these things myself?
Yes! In fact we encourage anyone with the knowledge and skill to consecrate any ritual items themselves! Doing a consecration yourself helps to first establish an energetic link between the item and yourself, which can be a very powerful component in certain rituals to help bring your results to the next level (for Goetic lamens and medallions especially I feel that doing a consecration yourself is the most ideal way to go as it helps to tie any results from any workings to yourself and your intended target(s)). Additionally, knowing exactly how you intend to use any particular item allows you to craft a consecration ritual specifically for that purpose, and helps to focus the energy you are imbuing into the item directly into the end result you are looking for.
So why have Goetic Impressions consecrate things?
We felt it was important to give an option for people who are unable or unwilling to consecrate these items themselves, so that they can enjoy the full benefit of having a consecrated ritual tool, if they so desire. I have been doing consecrations for decades, so if you are nervous about trying to do it yourself, or feel that your energy work might not be quite on that level yet, you have a second option.
How exactly do you do your consecrations?
Without going into line by line detail of my consecration ritual (I will likely release a full text version at some point down the road with step by step instructions but I am not there just yet) the ritual goes like this.
- Step one, preparation. Prior to any magickal or energetic work it is important to properly prepare. This involves a ritual cleansing so that I am not bringing any lingering outside energy into the ritual space itself. It also involves temple set up and banishing. For my banishing ritual I generally use the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, but on occasion I will use an alternative if the circumstances call for it. For the temple set up I do not go into anything terribly elaborate, I consecrate items atop a wax Sigillum Dei Aemeth, with two white candles lit to either side and some incense.
- Step two, consecration. For the consecration of the items themselves I use the ritual text from the first two Enochian Keys. If you are not familiar with these the modern English translation of them is as follows:
I reign over you, says the God of Justice, in power exalted above the firmaments of wrath: in whose hands the Sun is as a sword and the Moon as a through thrusting fire: which measures your garments in the midst of my vestures, and trussed you together as the palms of my hands: whose seats I garnished with the fire of gathering, and beautified your garments with admiration. To whom I made a law to govern the holy ones and delivered you a rod with the ark of knowledge. Moreover you lifted up your voices and swore obedience and faith to him that lives and triumphs, whose beginning is not, nor end can not be, which shines as a flame in the midst of your palace, and reigns amongst you as the balance of righteousness and truth. Move, therefore, and show yourselves: open the Mysteries of your Creation: Be friendly unto me: for I am the servant of the same your God, the true worshipper of the Highest.
Can the wings of the winds understand your voices of wonder, O you the second of the first, whom the burning flames have framed within the depth of my Jaws; whom I have prepared as Cups for a Wedding, or as the flowers in their beauty for the Chamber of righteousness. Stronger are your feet than the barren stone, and mightier are your voices than the manifold winds. For you are become a building such as is not, but in the mind of the All Powerful. Arise, says the First: Move therefore unto his Servants: Show yourselves in power: And make me a strong seething: for I am of him that lives for ever.
Following this I direct a flow of appropriate energy from myself into the items being consecrated, in keeping with the astrological and elemental attributes of the item in question. Then I dedicate the items to their purpose with a quick command (something along the lines of ‘I commit this medallion to Bune to serve in any ritual that calls upon him or his servants, in the name of IAO so mote it be.’) Then I close the ritual by giving thanks to the elements and the directional spirits and invite them to partake of the incense I have set out at the start of the ritual.
Hopefully if you have been wondering about this subject we have been able to shed a little light on it today for you. If there are any topics you would like to hear about from us in a future blog post feel free to let us know and we will see if we can talk about it a little bit!
Wishing you all well until next time,
~Ben, from Goetic Impressions
